Maritime Museum Melaka is quite accessible from main historical places of the city. The museum is known for the 34 meter high model of Portuguese ship decorated in the middle of the museum. The museum preserves sea voyage related items specially the ones used during golden ages of Malacca’s Sultanate. There are some paintings of the Melaka strait waters and it also displays famous trade items of the time like textile, spices, silk and porcelain. The museum also saves the items that were once used by Dutch, Portuguese, British and Muslim soldiers and sea travelers. You would probably love the ship models here too that belong to different architectural designs.

Maritime Museum Melaka is recommended for even a day’s trip to Melaka. The reason is that it is one giant ship model that offers you to observe such a vast history. The museum administration asks for a very reasonable ticket charges that are used for museum maintenance purposes. The Adults pay 2 RM and the children can enter with a ticket costing 1 RM.


The Maritime Museum Melaka is south-west of the Stadthuys and Christ Church Melaka and can be reached in 5 minutes on foot. You can’t miss the museum as it is in the center of Melaka main attractions. Melaka River Cruise also board nearby the museum and it is located nearby bank of Melaka River.


The museum is open for tourists every day. The museum timings are from 9 am to 5:30 pm daily. On Friday, the museum is closed between 12:15 pm to 2:45 pm for the Friday prayers.
